Freier Fall & Auf Augenhöhe
The two installations were mounted on the façade of Kastanienallee 71 in Easter week 2024.
"Freier Fall" (Freefall) presents a captivating exploration of uncertainty and the quest for stability through the visual metaphor of a woman. She hangs in chains, challenging viewers to discern between bondage and liberation. In this season, a connection to Jesus on the cross is evoked, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences of free-fall and anchoring. Confronting the paradoxical nature of perceived constraints prompts consideration of whether what appears as stability can actually offer life-giving support. This multifaceted reflection encourages a reevaluation of modern notions of security and freedom. It encourages a deeper understanding of the complexity of human experience.
"Auf Augenhöhe" (At Eye Level) is a striking installation featuring two giant fabric eyes affixed to the windows of the building. Similar to orthodox icons, these eyes gaze slightly upward, evoking a sense of transcendence and spirituality. At the same time, their positioning at eye level invites a profound reflection on the accessibility and relationality of the divine. As viewers contemplate the immense eyes, questions arise about the reciprocity of seeing and being seen, knowing and being known. Does God, too, desire recognition and intimacy with humanity? The installation challenges conceptions of divine presence and encourages as a contemplative space for encounters with the sacred. Do I perceive the divine gaze as judgmental? Or is it characterized by unconditional love, ultimately inviting mutual understanding and connection?
